Introducing the Science Advisory Council: Webinar and Open Applications

We’re inviting our community to get to know the Science Advisory Council, the independent body guiding the science behind Cool Farm. Join our January webinar to learn more and discover how to apply to become part of the Council.

At Cool Farm, scientific rigour and transparency sit at the heart of everything we do. From how emissions are calculated to how new methods are reviewed and introduced, independent scientific oversight plays a critical role in ensuring the Cool Farm Tool and Platform remain robust, credible, and fit for real-world decision-making.

That oversight is provided by the Science Advisory Council (SAC), an independent group of experts who guide the scientific foundations of Cool Farm’s work. As we look ahead to the next phase of platform development, we are opening applications for new SAC members and inviting our wider community to learn more about the Council and its role.

Join Our Webinar: Get to Know the Science Advisory Council

To support those interested in learning more, we are hosting a dedicated webinar introducing the Science Advisory Council, how it works in practice, and the impact it has across the Cool Farm Tool and Platform.

The session will be facilitated by Megan McKerchar, Head of Science and Methods at Cool Farm, and will feature:

  • Frank Brentrup, Chair of the Science Advisory Council
  • Quirine Ketterings, Co-Chair of the Science Advisory Council

Together, they will share how the SAC supports method development, independent review, and scientific guidance, and why this oversight is essential for tools used across global supply chains.

During the webinar, we will explore:

  • What the Science Advisory Council is and how it operates
  • How scientific review and governance are applied at Cool Farm
  • How SAC insights feed into the ongoing evolution of the Tool and Platform
  • What it means to be part of the Council

There will also be time for questions from attendees.

This session is particularly relevant for anyone considering applying to join the Science Advisory Council, as it provides an opportunity to better understand the Council’s role, responsibilities, and impact before submitting an application.

Applications Now Open: Join the Science Advisory Council

Alongside the webinar, we are pleased to announce that applications are now open for new members of the Science Advisory Council, including the role of SAC Chair.

The SAC plays a central role in ensuring the scientific integrity and credibility of the Cool Farm Tool and Platform. We are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in areas such as biodiversity, water, livestock systems, modelling, emissions, and sustainable management practices.

These voluntary roles offer the opportunity to:

  • Help shape globally used methodologies
  • Contribute to real-world impact across food and agriculture
  • Collaborate with leading experts across science and industry

You do not need to attend the webinar in order to apply, but it is a valuable opportunity to learn more about the Council and hear directly from its current leadership.

Learn More and Get Involved

Whether you are curious about how scientific decisions are made at Cool Farm, interested in contributing your expertise, or simply want to better understand the governance behind the Tool and Platform, we encourage you to take part.

  • Register for the webinar on 26 January
  • Apply to join the Science Advisory Council before 20 February

We look forward to welcoming new voices and perspectives as we continue to strengthen the scientific foundations of Cool Farm.
