Excited to introduce our new team member at Cool Farm!

Cool Farm are thrilled to welcome Ryan Sharp to the Cool Farm family! With a solid background in mathematics, computer science and 14 years in agricultural research, Ryan has joined our Science and Methods team. Let’s dive into a quick Q&A to learn more about Ryan and his new role with us.

Q: Ryan, what drew you to Cool Farm in the first place?

A: I spent the last five years of my scientific career modelling greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants from agricultural sources. While I loved the work, I wanted my work to have more impact and real-world applicability. This post was the perfect fit!

Q: You’ve been with Cool Farm for a few months now. How did your first days at Cool Farm feel?

A: From day one, I was impressed by how warm and welcoming everyone was. The sense of ownership and dedication within our small team really stood out to me.

Q: How would you describe the company culture here at Cool Farm?

A: Cool Farm is fully remote and doesn’t have a physical office. While this is a challenge for any company – the fact that it is fully remote, rather than hybrid, means everyone is in the same boat and no one is left out. We have regular opportunities to virtually meet up, and two full in-person meet-ups each year (a member focussed annual event along with an internal one), along with other ad-hoc meets. I was particularly struck by how well the company embraces and supports everyone’s differences, and the flexible work hours are a great benefit for work-life balance.

Q: How do you and your colleagues collaborate to achieve goals?

A: We have regular meetings to keep each other updated and adapt to any challenges that arise. This approach allows everyone to play to their strengths and contribute effectively.

Q: Any memorable moments you’d like to share?

A: One of my highlights was my first annual event with the team in Amsterdam. From hopping on to the Eurostar with my colleagues and spending a few days exploring the city to making our (exhausted) way back home, it was a fantastic experience! It was great to bond with everyone and get to know the team better.

Q: And finally, what do you like to do in your free time?

A: Outside of work, I enjoy playing tennis and ultimate frisbee, dabbling at a piano, and geeking out on sci-fi and fantasy books/TV/games.

Welcome aboard, Ryan! We’re excited to see the great impact you’ll make with us at Cool Farm!
